The Liberation Project, Inc.

Mission Statement

​

The Liberation Project, Inc. provides community-based leadership related to the development and revitalization in the community, while providing services to help alleviate various social conditions brought about by lack of education and poverty.  Programs and projects address needs encompassing a wide array of social and economic development issues.  The Liberation Project services include housing development efforts, a homebuyer assistance program, food/clothing programs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs and support groups, and Youth Intervention / Prevention programs.

 

About Us

Formed in 1998, The Liberation Project, Inc. is a Texas nonprofit agency, recognized as a 501(c)3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service, which was established to develop and implement programs and services that liberate and empower families and communities socially, economically, educationally, and culturally for the fulfillment of human potential.

At its inception, the Liberation Project encompassed five (5) colonies, which were impoverished areas in Fort Bend County. The Fifth Street community is one of the five; and the Liberation Project was instrumental in bringing together the civic, political, and religious communities in the fifth street colony revitalization development. This revitalization effort included programs such as healthcare and wellness, spiritual development, financial readiness, educational advancement, early childhood education, and food services/pantry. The Liberation Project received over 2 million dollars in grant monies for land development, housing assistance, life skills training, and various intervention and prevention programs for children, youth, and adults.

LPI partnered with E.A. Jones Elementary, Unocal, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and the City of Missouri City’s Community Development Block Grant program, LPI implemented a youth Intervention/Prevention program (LPI/P). The mission of the LPI/P program was to delay the onset of and reduce the use of alcohol and drug abuse decrease the frequency of violent acts; delay the onset of sexual activity; and develop increased self-control, emotional understanding, interpersonal relationship skills and cognitive problem-solving skills among youth 5–17 years old. Moreover, comprehensive reading program, job training program, tutorials and spiritual and self-esteem development, GED programs, ESL classes and Job Fairs.

Over the years, the Liberation Project has left a mark on each community it has served.

 

Community Development

​

LPI is a Community Housing Development Organization, that developed a 24- acre site, Glen Park housing project, with a total of 113 single-family homes in Missouri City, Texas. With a groundbreaking in January 2002, this community was heralded as a model for the revitalization of distressed neighborhoods throughout the county, and the result of a powerful partnership of financial and community development institutions which included Sugar Land Properties, Inc., Ryland Homes, the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council, Southwest Bank of Texas, and Fannie Mae.

 

Supportive Services within the Community

The Liberation Project’s Board of Directors expanded its developmental initiatives and supportive services to the Park at Fort Bend Community within East Fort Bend County. Furthermore, extending programming to reach the Southwest Houston area with the addition of the Collingham Park Community.

Relevant programs offered include the following:

  • Children and Youth Intervention Services

  • Job Readiness and Job Training Services

  • Healthy Living: Wellness and Prevention Resources

  • Educational / Scholastic Services through a comprehensive After School / Mentoring program

  • Spiritual Development

  • Financial Planning – Budget, Credit Repair, Homebuying Assistance, etc.

  • Food Services through the Houston Food Bank and other partnering agencies

  • Literacy Program through the development of a library and computerized program to guarantee increased reading comprehension skills.

  • Community Events that foster unity.

  • Collaboratives / Partnerships with area organizations to bring resources, programming, and assistance to the community.

 

The Liberation Project is positioned as a ―classic community service agency poised and ready to develop programs and services to support the implementation of federal, state, and local goals and objectives targeted to meet the myriad of needs in the above identified areas from East Fort Bend County, Harris County to Brazoria County. The extensive management and community involvement background and expertise of the board and staff give the agency the flexibility to execute impactful operations across the breadth of identified service delivery venues. A key to success in accomplishing the mission is active participation in statewide and national Non-profit Community Initiatives and conferences offered by the city, county, state, and federal agencies.

 

Community Impact

The Liberation Project seeks to expand services to extend to a new mission field in Brazoria County. Keeping in line with the mission, the Liberation Project seeks to continue to address needs encompassing a wide array of social as well as economic development issues.  The Liberation Project services include housing development efforts, a homebuyer assistance program, food/clothing programs, alcohol and drug programs and support groups, and Youth Intervention / Prevention program and all missional efforts of the church which include utility assistance, housing assistance, housing repair assistance, housing, and community development.

Our main goal is to offer Child/Youth Supportive Services by offering mentoring programs in partnership with area schools. The Liberation Project also plans to offer non-crisis support groups with flexible and multiple times during the week for children/youth and families. Classes that offer social and emotional guidance with licensed and professional counselors. Additionally, afterschool programming that support children/youth through early childhood to preparing them for college. We have a proven model that has successfully yielded a plethora of students that have gone on to college and significantly decreased the area dropout rate. Our mentors connect with students and wholeheartedly make a commitment to ensure their success and assimilation into society.

In partnership with ShineBright tutoring, afterschool and daycare programs, the Liberation Project will continue its mission of providing programs and services that address the needs of social, economic and educational development within our community.
